Today is National Nacho Day.
I don’t know if it would qualify as America’s Favorite Food—but on the other hand, I’ve also never met one person who didn’t love them.
To back that up, a national survey rated them our favorite Mexican food, beating out all the classics. In fact, when it comes to ALL types of food, it was in the top five, along with things like chocolate chip cookies and spaghetti. That’s powerful.
All I know is that nachos are only great if they’re properly layered. One giant mound of naked chips with just a few on top getting the goods is garbage.
And I love what comedian Bob Marley said about nachos. Have a listen:
Let's get on with the countdown.
Along with today's Mindbender you get these bonus stories:
How we hold hands
Earning respect from coworkers
Things that still awe us
But first, today's Mindbender:
Almost 14% of people have paid for a (blank) and never used it.
I'll have a clue coming up.
How we hold hands
Do you have a preferred method for holding hands? Yes, there’s more than one way to do it.
If you interlock fingers with your partner, you’re in the majority, according to a survey.
The other way is doing it with cupped hands.
But does it also depend on how old you are? The results seem to show that interlocking fingers is something younger people are more apt to do, while Boomers are more likely to do the cupping method.
Then you’ve got the 4% who said neither. They will not hold your hand.
I can think of two songs about this subject: The Beatles’ classic “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” and “Hold My Hand” by Hootie and the Blowfish.
There are probably more, but I’m moving on.
Earning respect from coworkers
Do you feel like you have the respect of your coworkers?
If not, a new book suggests there are three categories of things you need to do in order to win their respect. And they say this applies whether you’re the boss or an entry-level employee.
- Give. Be generous with your time and knowledge.
- Resist. Resist the temptation to gossip about coworkers, no matter how fun it is. And resist taking credit for stuff, even when it’s deserved.
- Exude. Exude professionalism by not being late, being open, honest, and transparent, and exuding confidence.
I can’t believe they left off the MOST IMPORTANT thing to winning the respect of your coworkers. I mean, it’s so obvious.
BRING DONUTS.
There. I just wrote my own book on the subject. 🤣
Here's a clue for the Mindbender:
Your doctor must really appreciate you wasting her time.
Things that still awe us
There are some things we’ve seen a hundred times, but it still never ceases to leave us in awe.
Like the fact Pete Davidson dates so many gorgeous women. I mean, HOW??
Other than that, an online thread came up with these:
- Mountains. Yeah, every time. Stunning.
- Thunderstorms.
- Sunrises and sunsets.
- Watching an airplane take off.
I’ll bet you can think of more. Find the thread here.
And now, the answer to today's Mindbender:
What have they paid for but never used?
A medical prescription.
You went to the doctor, you went to the pharmacy, you paid for everything . . . and then you let it just go to waste.
This is how much some people hate taking medicine.
That'll do it for today's Mindbender. Thank you for being part of The Club.
Enjoy your day!
