Two years ago, an experimental submersible carrying five passengers to peer at the remains of the Titanic had its own disaster. All five people perished instantly when the Titan imploded.
Now, two years later, there’s a documentary covering the Coast Guard’s investigation into the tragedy.
Personally, I would’ve enjoyed more of the science behind the submersible and everything that went wrong. Instead, the show focuses mostly on the arrogance and irresponsibility of the people behind it.
It’s still interesting. I expect we’ll get more of a science-driven program as more evidence comes out.
In the meantime, you can find “Implosion” on HBO Max.
Let's get on with the countdown.
Along with today's Mindbender you get these bonus stories:
How many states have you visited?
Grandma showers
Little things that annoy us
But first, today's Mindbender:
If you could order it any way you want, what would be your dream pizza topping? Three percent of people said (blank).
I'll have a clue coming up.
How many states have you visited?
One of the benefits of growing up in a road-trip family was seeing lots of new places.
But some people stay close to home.
A new poll found 5% of Americans have never been to any state other than the one where they live. Which is wild to me.
About 16% have been to 20 to 29 states, while the largest percentage (28%) have visited between 10 and 19 of them.
I know for a fact I’ve been to at least 44, and likely more. Wish I had a hoodie from each of them.
For what it’s worth, the survey didn’t specifically define what a “visit” is, but driving through it seems to count. People said just being inside an airport, however, didn’t count.
Grandma showers

First there were bridal showers, then baby showers, then couples’ showers, then . . .
Grandma showers?
Apparently there’s a trend some people are trying to get off the ground, where you throw a shower for people who are about to become grandparents.
Advocates say it’s a “heartwarming way to honor a new chapter in life.”
People on the other side are screaming it’s yet another gift-grab, and another party that people feel obligated to attend.
I’m not saying a word. My mouth/opinions have gotten me into enough trouble this year. 😃
Here's a clue for the Mindbender:
This poll sounds fishy to me.
Little things that annoy us

A survey asked people to name something minor that stressed them out.
Looks like the answers fell into two primary camps: annoying sounds and annoying people.
The top ten included:
- When you run into someone you’d rather not talk to
- Someone talking to you when you’re trying to focus
- Heavy breathing
- Too many text message dings
And how do you cope with these minor irritations? People say the best way is to listen to music.
Not to be TOO snarky, but I find a lot of songs annoy the crap out of me. So NOW what? 🤣
And now, the answer to today's Mindbender:
What would be their dream pizza topping?
Caviar.
I’ve tried caviar a couple of times. I’ll just say it’s not for me.
And man, talk about a pricey pie.
That'll do it for today's Mindbender. Thank you for being part of The Club.
Enjoy your day!
