Okay, let's get on with the countdown.
Along with today's Mindbender you get these bonus stories:
Earth Day
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Being a tourist on foot
But first, today's Mindbender:
When you buy one of these for your house, you’ll keep it for an average of 9.5 years.
Josh said, "a TV,” and Jeremy went with “a mattress.”
I'll have a clue coming up.
Earth Day
Today is Earth Day, which was first celebrated in 1970.
There are obviously so many things we can all do to help the planet, but someone posted three things that are easy enough for everyone to do.
They include:
Stop wasting leftovers. Hey, it’ll save you money, too. Plus, it takes a lot of water and other resources to grow all the veggies we let rot.
Stop overusing napkins. Yes, I’ve been guilty of this at restaurants. I’ll bet you have, too. Are we really that messy that one won’t do?
Reusable grocery bags. I’m proud to say this is finally a habit with me. I even use the bag instead of the hand carts when walking through the store.
As someone said: “Let’s stop pretending we’ll all really reuse all those balled-up plastic bags at the house.”
Seriously.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Let the outrage begin!
This year’s inductees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were announced over the weekend.
That means people can begin yelling about who was snubbed and who got in but didn’t deserve it.
This year’s entries in the Performers category are:
Mary J. Blige . . . Cher . . . Dave Matthews Band . . . Foreigner . . . Peter Frampton . . . Kool & The Gang . . . Ozzy Osbourne . . . and A Tribe Called Quest.
Jimmy Buffett and Dionne Warwick will be recognized for “Musical Excellence.”
And several other people you’ve never heard of in other categories.
The induction ceremony will be in October. See the full list and other details here.
Here's a clue for the Mindbender:
It sucks that it doesn’t last forever. Yes, that’s a clue.
Being a tourist on foot
I’m throwing in this story because it’s a personal favorite of mine. Perhaps for you, too.
When I travel, I like to see places on foot. That’s why I loved walking the Freedom Trail in Boston, and hiking Cinque Terre in Italy.
A new study looked into the most walkable cities for tourists in the U.S. and the top spot went to:
Chicago.
They were looking for cities where you could see the most landmarks on foot in the least amount of time. And Chicago scored.
It takes only 28 minutes to explore five of its most famous landmarks on foot, including The Magnificent Mile.
Nashville is second on the list, followed by Dallas, Santa Fe, and New Orleans.
See the full list here.
And now, the answer to today's Mindbender:
What will last for 9.5 years?
A vacuum cleaner.
Or, as they call all vacuum cleaners in the UK, a hoover. You don’t vacuum a room, you hoover it.
It’s similar to how we’ve made the word Kleenex a generic term.
That'll do it for today's Mindbender. Thank you for being part of The Club.
Enjoy your day!
